An adaptation of Masanori Morita's shonen manga "Rookies," this drama revolves around an enthusiastic high school teacher named Koichi Kawato (Ryuta Sato). He arrives at a school whose baseball team has been suspended due to a scandal. Most of the regular members and staff have abandoned the team, leaving only a group of bad students with no goals. Kawato makes it his mission to use baseball to reform those students and give them a direction in life.

以《无赖之布鲁斯》而闻名的森田正则曾在《周刊少年JUMP》（集英社）上连载过的人气热血青年棒球漫画《ROOKIES》（又名《教头当家》,号称棒球版的《GTO》），最近宣布将由主演过《木更津猫眼》的人气演员佐藤隆太（27）出演真人版连续剧的男主角川藤。该剧将从四月开始，每周六的晚八点开始播出。
